Frequently asked questions
What is the AIP Canada?
The AIP (Aeronautical Information Publication) Canada is the official aeronautical manual of Canada, published by NAV CANADA: aerodrome data, procedures and en-route information, amended in the 56-day cycle that runs on the AIRAC grid. AIP:Aero links you straight to the official publication.
Are the approach charts free?
AIP:Aero is free: no account, no subscription. NAV CANADA publishes the AIP Canada free of charge, while the Canadian charts are sold - so for Canada you will find the aerodromes with their data and weather here, and the official publication one click away.
Which airfields are available for Canada?
For Canada you will find VFR airfields such as Toronto Pearson International Airport (CYYZ), and the smaller fields that carry no ICAO code and are addressed by their Transport Canada identifier instead - each with aerodrome data, decoded weather (METAR/TAF) and a link to the official NAV CANADA publication.
Can I use AIP:Aero offline or on my EFB?
Yes - AIP:Aero installs as an app (PWA), and single aerodromes or the whole country can be saved offline. See the EFB guide.
Where can I learn to read a chart or decode METAR/TAF?
New to aeronautical charts? The pilot guides walk through reading a VFR/IFR approach chart, the AIRAC cycle and decoding METAR and TAF, and the aviation glossary explains the key terms like AIP, VFR/IFR, ICAO codes and chart types.
What is this website for?
The AIP Canada (ICAO) is published by NAV CANADA and is freely available on the NAV CANADA website. The Canadian charts - the VFR Navigation Charts, the Terminal Area Charts, the Canada Air Pilot and the Canada Flight Supplement - are a separate NAV CANADA product and are sold, so for Canada this website links the official publication instead of individual charts. It aims to simplify the search for airfields, as the official AIP does not include a search function. We do not accept any liability for the accuracy or timeliness of the AIP (Aeronautical Information Publication), as it is not published by us.
