Frequently asked questions
Where does the US aeronautical data on this site come from?
From the FAA's own publications: the NASR aerodrome dataset and the d-TPP terminal procedure charts, amended in the 28-day AIRAC cycle. Both are public-domain works of the US government, and AIP:Aero links you straight to the official sheet. The AIP of the United States is published by the FAA as well.
Are the approach charts free?
AIP:Aero is free: no account, no subscription. The FAA publishes US aerodrome data and approach charts in the public domain, so the official sheets are free to open too.
Which charts and airfields are available for the USA?
For the USA you will find every public-use airfield - from Oshkosh Wittman Regional (KOSH) to small fields that carry no ICAO code and are addressed by their FAA identifier instead, such as Abbeville Municipal (0J0) - each with a direct link to the official chart, decoded weather (METAR/TAF) and aerodrome data.
Can I use AIP:Aero offline or on my EFB?
Yes - AIP:Aero installs as an app (PWA), and single aerodromes or the whole country can be saved offline. See the EFB guide.
Where can I learn to read a chart or decode METAR/TAF?
New to aeronautical charts? The pilot guides walk through reading a VFR/IFR approach chart, the AIRAC cycle and decoding METAR and TAF, and the aviation glossary explains the key terms like AIP, VFR/IFR, ICAO codes and chart types.
What is this website for?
US aeronautical data is published by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a public-domain work: the NASR aerodrome dataset and the d-TPP terminal procedure charts are free to access, with no account. This website aims to simplify the search for airfields. We do not accept any liability for the accuracy or timeliness of the aeronautical data, as it is not published by us. We only provide convenient links to the respective charts.
