AIP:Aero already works in your browser and installs as a PWA app on any device (just add it to your smartphone's home screen). The native apps add what the web platform cannot: the national eAIP approach-chart PDFs saved for full offline use on your iPhone, iPad or Android tablet.
The web app is not going anywhere - it stays the best way to use AIP:Aero on a desktop or laptop, and the aerodrome pages inside the app are the same AIP:Aero you already use.

Why only the app: national AIP servers do not let a browser store their chart PDFs offline - it can only keep unreadable copies that waste storage and will not open without a connection. The app downloads the real files straight to your device, so a whole country's charts are there when you have no signal.
Why keep the web app: it installs from any browser on Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS, opens full-screen, and updates itself with no app-store step. The app shows the same aip.aero pages inside it, so the PWA is not a lesser version - it is the desktop-and-everywhere half of one product.
Notifications that matter, on iOS and Android
An app stores charts on your device, and stored data goes stale silently. Push is the one channel that can tell you - so it is only ever used for a change we can prove, and every tier is a separate opt-in you control.
Safety - on by default
A new NOTAM at an aerodrome you follow, an AIRAC change that makes your downloaded charts out of date, or an aerodrome that closes or is removed from the AIP.
Data changes - optional
A genuinely new chart, such as a new approach procedure, and curated changes to operating hours, customs, PPR or a runway.
Convenience - off by default
The fuel price at an aerodrome you follow, and occasional product news such as a new country or feature - each on its own switch.
The app stays fully usable with notifications turned off, and a NOTAM alert never puts the NOTAM text in the banner - only a count and a link to the field.
The installed web app (PWA) can receive the safety alerts too - NOTAM, AIRAC and field-status. Tap the bell on any aerodrome page to switch them on. On iPhone and iPad, add AIP:Aero to your home screen first (Web Push needs an installed PWA there).

Can I save approach charts for offline use in the app?
Yes. The app downloads the national eAIP approach-chart PDFs straight to your device, so a whole country's charts are available with no connection - something a browser cannot do.
Will the app cost anything?
No. The app is free, with no advertising and no in-app purchases.
Do I still need the web app?
The web app stays the best way to use AIP:Aero on a desktop or laptop, and it installs from any browser with no app store. The native app adds offline charts and push notifications on your phone or tablet - both are the same product.
What will the app notify me about?
Only changes we can prove: a new NOTAM or an AIRAC update at an aerodrome you follow, and, if you opt in, a new chart or data change. Each type is a separate switch, and the app stays fully usable with notifications off.
Which countries' charts can I download?
Wherever the national AIP publishes downloadable charts. Some countries publish none - their AIP is HTML-only or behind a login - and the app is honest about coverage for each aerodrome.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts and no sign-up; every feature works on first launch.
