AIP:Aero pilot tools: EFB app, offline charts, imports and data
How to install AIP:Aero on your EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) tablet, save approach charts offline, download country packs and hand fields over to your planning tools - step by step.
Install as an app (PWA)
AIP:Aero is an installable web app: it opens full-screen like a native app and everything you save is available offline. No app store needed.
Save single airfields offline
Every airport detail page has a "Save offline" button. It stores the page and, where the AIP publishes one, the approach-chart PDF on your device; the field then appears under Favorites on the country page. Saved copies show their download date.
Download a whole country
On the airport list you can download all of a country's detail pages in one go (pages only, without chart PDFs - save those per field). The pack shows its size before downloading and can be updated or removed at any time.
Favorites & recently viewed
Fields you save for offline use automatically appear as favorites, and the last airfields you opened are listed under "Recently viewed" - both are stored only on your device, no account needed. You will find both lists on the country page.
Chart PDFs in ForeFlight, SkyDemon & Co.
Where the national AIP publishes chart PDFs, the chart box on the detail page links the current PDF including its AIRAC date. Download it and import it into your EFB app as custom content, e.g. ForeFlight (Custom Content), SkyDemon (Custom Airfield Plates) or Garmin Pilot. Germany publishes HTML pages instead of PDFs - use the AIP link there.
Hand-offs to planning tools
The location box on every detail page opens the same field directly in SkyVector, Windy and autorouter - handy for route planning, weather models and flight-plan filing.
Weather briefing on the page
Detail pages show live METAR/TAF with plain-language decoding, the flight-category badge and a per-runway head- and crosswind breakdown - a quick cross-check, not a substitute for your official briefing.
Briefing by mail
Every aerodrome detail page offers a full pre-flight briefing as a PDF under Briefing by mail: enter your e-mail address and up to three aerodromes of your route (departure, destination, alternate), optionally your cruise speed, and we send you a PDF with weather, NOTAMs, runways, frequencies and chart links, plus a link to the printable kneeboard sheet. Informational only, not a substitute for the official pre-flight briefing.
Compare fuel prices
Where prices are available, the aerodrome-data box on the detail page shows the fuel price per litre (and US gallon) by grade - AVGAS, MOGAS, Jet A-1. Because there is no official source, we combine several reports: when they agree you see one figure with the number of sources, when they differ a range with every source named; stale prices are dropped. On the airport-list map, the fuel filter shows the fields that carry fuel (optionally by grade) and the marker then shows the price. For orientation only - the price at the field applies.
Customs & border crossing
Detail pages show whether a field offers customs clearance; where a national AIP lists it in GEN 1.2, the value is verified against that official source. For border-crossing paperwork the location box links the official forms (e.g. the UK General Aviation Report), and the map can filter for customs airfields. Rules change - always confirm with the current AIP and the local authority.
Safety notice
AIP:Aero links official AIP publications but is not an official source. Offline copies are marked with their download date and can become outdated with every AIRAC cycle - verify chart currency before every flight and always obtain an official pre-flight briefing.
Stay online on the Stratux Wi-Fi (Android)
Stratux has a Wi-Fi Direct mode that keeps your mobile data working while you are connected. Enable Wi-Fi Direct in the Stratux settings, then connect from your Android Wi-Fi settings (advanced menu, Wi-Fi Direct) with the PIN.
On iPhone, Wi-Fi Direct is not available. Open aip.aero before you connect, or install it as an app and download your country's offline pack. Turning on Wi-Fi Assist (iOS Settings, Mobile Data) can help the app keep mobile data, though it is not guaranteed.

Do you run an airfield? A receiver at your field feeds OGN or the open ADS-B networks under your own registration, and its traffic then shows on the AIP:Aero Ground Station of every field. Detailed Stratux instructions are in preparation.
Frequently asked questions
Does AIP:Aero work fully offline?
Saved airfields and downloaded country packs work without internet; every offline copy shows a banner with its save date. Live weather (METAR/TAF) always needs a connection.
Which countries are covered?
All countries currently live are listed on the homepage - the coverage grows continuously. Each country card shows the available chart types.
Are the charts current?
Chart links point to the official national AIP publications, including the AIRAC date where published. Always verify against the official source before flight.
Can I get a briefing by mail and compare fuel prices?
Yes. On every aerodrome detail page you can have a pre-flight briefing sent to you as a PDF (weather, NOTAMs, runways, frequencies, chart links) for up to three aerodromes of your route, under Briefing by mail. Where prices are reported, the aerodrome-data box also shows the fuel price per litre by grade, and the map's fuel filter reveals the fields that carry fuel. Both are informational only, not a substitute for the official briefing.
AI assistants & agent tools
AIP:Aero also works with AI assistants. Every page offers agent tools (the WebMCP standard) that take your request and open the right page for you. The tools only navigate: they hand no data to the assistant, so you always read the official information on aip.aero itself.
- Ask in your own words, for example "NOTAMs Friedrichshafen": the assistant opens the matching aerodrome page directly at that section.
- Open an aerodrome page at its NOTAMs, aerodrome data, FAQ or briefing.
- Open a country's overview pages, such as the airport list or the fuel-price comparison.
- Prepare a route briefing: the departure page opens with destination, alternate and cruise speed filled in. Nothing is sent - you review the route and request the briefing yourself.
The tools work in browsers that support the WebMCP standard (currently preview versions of Chrome).
The tools only open pages and never change or send anything. Like the whole site, they are for flight preparation and do not replace the official pre-flight briefing.
